Robert remarks: “Racehorses are held in high esteem and often given human characteristics when they are described: they are ‘strong’, ‘brave’, ‘spirited’, ‘intelligent’.  The animals of food production are measured by their productivity (‘conversion’) and treated in a way that reflects this.
