Ando is half-Japanese and half-Russian and is a descendant of Bizen sword maker Ando Yoshiro Masakatsu. She was raised by swordsmiths-turned-Buddhist priests in a temple in Okayama. Ando specialises in dyeing, painting and fashioning metal. Her extraordinary heritage, skill and passion shape her signature works which are exhibited and collected world-wide. The Horsebox Gallery presented the first UK exhibition of leading American post-minimalist artist Miya Ando in partnership with The Sanderson Hotel, London. The exhibition of paintings and sculpture run September 16 - 11 October 2013 inside the hotel which coincides with the launch of an exclusive limited edition speaker series called 'Transformations' designed by Ando for Bang & Olufsen (featured in 700 stores globally).
